Our Team

The Institute of Bionic Engineering and Biomechanics (BEBC) at Xi'an Jiaotong University addresses fundamental scientific challenges and technological bottlenecks in the diagnosis and treatment of major diseases. Guided by the research philosophy of "clinical demand-driven inquiry → biomechanical theory innovation → medical-engineering technology breakthroughs → clinical translation and application", BEBC has established "multi-scale bio-thermo-mechano-electrical coupling" as a pioneering framework, forging a novel interdisciplinary direction termed "mechano-medicine" and proposing the groundbreaking concept of "cellular intelligence" with transformative technological implications.

Rooted in mechanical theory, BEBC integrates multidisciplinary expertise in materials, chemistry, biology, and medicine, adhering to the "Bedside (BED) clinical problem identification → Laboratory (BENCH) research → Bedside (BED) clinical application" paradigm. The institute conducts foundational and applied research on mechanical microenvironments across tissue, cellular, and molecular scales, focusing on multi-scale bio-thermo-mechano-electrical coupling. These efforts provide critical theoretical insights and technical solutions for elucidating the pathogenesis of major diseases and advancing clinical diagnostics and therapeutics.

In recent years, building upon its expertise in biomechanics and mechanobiology, BEBC has pioneered "mechanomedicine" research by engineering multi-scale mechanical regulation into disease diagnosis and therapy. Representative studies have been published in high-impact journals, including Nature Materials, Nature Chemistry, Nature Biomedical Engineering, Nature Communications, Science Advances, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS). Furthermore, BEBC has systematically elucidated the applications and prospects of mechanomedicine in diverse diseases through publications in leading domestic medical journals.
